Leif ERICSON
Leif Erikson was a Norse explorer who is credited with being the first European to set foot in North America. He was born in Iceland in the year 970 AD, and he grew up hearing stories about the great voyages of his father, Erik the Red. In 1000 AD, Leif set out on his own expedition to find new lands. He sailed west from Greenland and landed on the coast of what is now Newfoundland. He named this new land Vinland, and he spent the winter there before returning to Greenland.
Leif's voyage was a major event in the history of exploration. It marked the beginning of the European colonization of North America, and it paved the way for the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1492. Leif Erikson is a fascinating figure, and his story is one of adventure, exploration, and discovery.
