In the year 79 AD, Mount Vesuvius, a volcano that had been dormant for centuries, erupted with a fury that would change the course of history. The town of Pompeii, located at the base of the volcano, was caught completely off guard. The people of Pompeii had grown complacent, believing that the volcano was no longer a threat.
