James Hetfield
James Hetfield was born on August 3, 1963, in Downey, California. He grew up in a middle-class family and was introduced to music at a young age by his mother, who was a piano player. James started playing guitar at the age of 14 and quickly became obsessed with it. He formed his first band, Obsession, in high school and played in various local bands before joining Metallica in 1983.
